The Montclair State Men’s Club Basketball Team was founded in the 2011-2012 Academic Year. Its founder and former president, Mark Johnson, established the club in the spirit of providing an opportunity to compete with those who either were not given the opportunity to play on the NCAA level or those who chose to play in a less strenuous atmosphere. Now going into its 8th year, the Men’s Club Basketball Team still holds onto their values, which are fostering community and family, developing teamwork, and having fun, in addition to proudly representing Montclair State.
The NIRSA National Championship Series holds many new opportunities for our team. Throughout the years, we have been able to grow a stronger bond on and off the court with our team mates. By donating, you are able to help us grow stronger, help us obtain more experience, and hopefully gain a new title as National Champions. A team is not truly a team without a loyal fan base, encouraging friends, and supporting families. They are the backbone to every player and the team as a whole. We appreciate every single donation made to helping us become National Champions.
NIRSA is an organization that operates on the national level, providing intercollegiate competition for a variety of sports throughout the year. The tournament that we are attending, the National Championship Series for Basketball, is one that has gained great notoriety. This year, it is being hosted by Wichita State University in Wichita, Kansas. In last year’s tournament, taking place at The Ohio State University, there were 99 diverse and very talented teams from the Men’s Club, Men’s Intramural, Women’s Club, Women’s Intramural, and Unified Sports that participated. The Men’s Club division, in which we were contenders and plan to win this year, is comprised of 36 teams, with MSU proudly being the only representative from New Jersey and being the only Division III Club program. It is an amazing experience to see so many different schools and levels coming together to honor the game of basketball and participate in a chance to bring a National Championship home.
