Cheer All-Girls
Our team is excited to return to Daytona for Nationals for the 13th year! We have placed 2nd three times and have made it to the finals every year. This summer, we won the Gold Bid at NCA Camp at Boston University, as well as Top Overall Team, Most Spirited, and Game Day performance. The team consists of 23 women with several who are NCA All- Americans. Our coaches, Jayne and Staci Shalkowski, are dedicated to our team’s success. Jayne has been head coach at Montclair for 13 years and works with both the All-Girls and Coed teams. Staci has been coaching since her graduation from Montclair State. She is a former NCAA II American and NCA staffer. Our team also does many public appearances. We teach a junior cheer clinic each year where young cheerleaders come out to learn and perform at half time of a Montclair State Football game. We also run various clinics with local high schools, pop warner, AYC, and elementary schools. We love having the opportunity to represent Montclair State University Cheer at Nationals every year and we would love your help to get there!
Cheer Coed
Our team is brand new this year! We are beyond excited to qualify for Nationals with such a new program. Our team consists of 3 boys and 10 girls. Our coach, Kelly McGuirl, is a graduate student at Montclair and is a former cheer caption of the All-Girls team!
Dance Team
The Montclair State Dance Team (MSDT) is a nationally-ranked team that has represented the University over the past five years. In 2014, students created the MSDT to give dancers an opportunity to perform at school events and compete at the national level. MSDT performs at football and basketball games, as well as other events on campus, with hip-hop, jazz, and pom routines.
The team travels to the National Dance Alliance (NDA) Collegiate Dance Team Championship in Daytona, Florida. While competing at this most prestigious college dance competition in the United States, MSDT holds a 2018 National Championship Title in DIII Team Performance. This was their first year competing at this competition. This year, MSDT will be competing in DIII Team Performance and DIII Hip Hop, for the first time.
The cost to run the program is student driven with guidance and oversight by the Student Recreation Center and coaching staff. As we continue to grow our team, our costs increase. We raise money through dancer dues, donations, and fundraisers. Dancers must pay to participate through dues and personal cost to purchase uniforms, costumes, and shoes. Your support provides another opportunity for our dancers to alleviate some personal cost.
We are very proud of these young women for their accomplishments on the stage. We are equally proud of their support and active participation in University programs. Their initiative and commitment to further the team and represent Montclair State University in a most positive manner is without question. We welcome and greatly appreciate any support for our dancers!
Funding will be utilized to provide per diem money for cheerleaders, while the dance team is in need of purchasing additional practice space in Daytona Beach to continue working during their downtime at Nationals.
The dance team won the DIII All Girl National Championship in Team Performance in 2018
