Celebrating Alumni in Law and Justice with the U.S. SEC's Director of Enforcement, Mr. Gurbir S. Grewal

April 11, 2023

The Office of Alumni Engagement, College of Humanities and Social Sciences and Pre-Law Program were honored to host Mr. Gurbir Grewal, the U.S. Securities and Exchange. Commission's Director of Enforcement and former Attorney General of New Jersey, for our Celebration of Alumni in Law and Justice. For this March event, we had a great turnout of Montclair State alumni from across the decades who shared their experience and perspective on current cryptocurrency and corporate governance issues that are regulated by the SEC. It was a wonderful evening full of engagement and support for the Montclair State community. We look forward to hosting future events that allow us to connect with our Montclair State alumni and the legal community.

Pre-Law Summer Academy

March 31, 2023

Sponsor a $1,565 scholarship for the Pre-Law Summer Academy

The Pre-Law Summer Academy is a rigorous and immersive program for rising juniors, seniors, and graduating high school seniors to learn about the legal process, trial preparation, and issues related to environmental law contamination and Native American and Indigenous Peoples’ Religious and Land Rights. With a mock trial experience as the primary focus, participants will work in teams of four to draft arguments, witness statements, and develop their case strategy with the assistance of professors, law students, and attorneys for the first seven days. Participants will connect the case material with local and global issues by visiting the Lenni Lenape Munsee Three Sisters Farm in northern NJ and reporting on recent events. The last three days of the program are reserved for teams to deliver their arguments in front of mock trial judges followed by visits to the U.S. District Courthouse as well as Rutgers University Law School and Seton Hall University Law School.

This purpose of the Pre-Law Summer Academy scholarship initiative is to help New Jersey high school students from low socioeconomic communities and backgrounds that are historically underrepresented in the legal community, connect with NJ law schools and learn skills needed to be successful in college, law school, and beyond.
