In Loving Memory - Elisa Michel

This award is in memory of Elisa Michel, who passed away in March 2023 just weeks shy of graduating from Montclair State University with a BA in French Translation and International Studies. Already trilingual in English, Spanish, and French, Elisa was passionate about languages, with plans to add even more languages to her repertoire. She had the opportunity to study abroad in Paris in the summer of 2022, an experience which opened up so many new doors for her.
She was hired by the Spanish and Latino Studies programs as one of the Communicative Workshop Assistants for beginning Spanish courses helping, every semester, around 100 students with their conversational skills. She loved helping students and was very resourceful and helpful. It is in honor of Elisa’s love of travel and the cultures of the world that we offer this scholarship. Eligible to apply are French or Spanish majors and minors with demonstrated financial need, who wish to study abroad to enhance their linguistic and cultural proficiency.
