Institute for the Advancement of Philosophy for Children

About the Institute for the Advancement of Philosophy for Children

The Institute for the Advancement of Philosophy for Children (IAPC) is the world’s oldest organization devoted to young people’s philosophical practice. Founded in 1974, the IAPC conducts research, develops educational materials, and provides training in multidimensional thinking, dialogic teaching, and philosophical inquiry across school subjects. Our services include:

·      A P-12 philosophy curriculum, translated and cultural adapted in many countries.

·      The weblog Thinking in Stories: Reviewing Philosophy in Children’s Literature.

·      A variety of forums of professional development—including on-site and online workshops, courses, and webinars.

·      Empirical and philosophical research into young people’s philosophical practice, philosophical pedagogy, and educational reform.

·      Academic conferences and symposia.

·      Hosting visiting scholars from around the world.

·      Consultation with schools, universities, and non-governmental organization offering philosophy for children courses and degree programs.

As most of these services do not produce revenue, the IAPC welcomes donations from those committed to educational policies and practices that enable children’s philosophical thinking.
