Last update: Thank you again!

April 28, 2019

On behalf of the HawkHack organizing team, we'd like to use this opportunity to thank you all again for your generous support! The event wouldn't have been such a success without everyone's support. We had 150 participants, which hit the capacity we planned. The participants came from Montclair State University, nearby universities, community colleges, and even high schools!

We were delighted to see that the participants built awesome software and hardware projects, among which, 25 were demonstrated and 5 projects won prizes in different categories.

We received media coverage from the university and also outside media:

https://njbiz.com/montclair-state-university-holds-24-hour-coding-marathon/

We'd appreciate it if you can share the project page with your friends and family and encourage them to support this project!

Also, help spread the words because we are planning for the next edition of HawkHack in the next semester!

Thank you again for your support!

The Result of a Successful Hackathon

April 01, 2019

What a weekend it has been.

As you all know, this past weekend MSU had it's very first hackathon named "HawkHack", hosted by yours truly, the MSU Computer Club!

The turnout was incredible. We had an awesome time with our participants and really spent a nice time with one another, becoming close friends by the end of the event. One way we accomplished this was by creating an ecosystem where you could do a lot and weren't forced to do one singular thing. From interacting with industry professionals, to playing games and being silly, to getting down and dirty with the code, we tried our best to keep HawkHack as diverse as possible.

We took plenty of photos from the event and have posted them online, which you could find here: https://msucc.shutterfly.com/pictures/8

Here are some statistics from the event:

  • HawkHack Spring 2019 was Montclair State University’s first ever hackathon
  • Accumulated over 150 participants, reaching our maximum quota of participants
  • Collectively had 25 projects submitted
  • Presented 3 distinct challenges that had each their own respective winners
  • Had speakers and judges from several different companies (several of them being MSU alumni):
    • Ken Carlascio, Director of Application Development from UPS
    • Andrew Friedman, an Application Developer from UPS
    • Lee Painton, a Site Reliability Engineer from Google
    • Zill Christian, a Senior Security Engineer from Netflix
    • Paul Collado, a Software Engineer from Lifion, by ADP
    • Dr. Lyron Andrews, an Educator from Google

Thank You From the MSU Computer Club!

March 25, 2019

Thank you to everyone who's helped us reach $1000! This means so much to the MSU Computer Club since this is our first time ever hosting a hackathon!

By donating to our cause, you're helping enable education, competition, and innovation. This is something we promise your money is going towards.

With that, we are still 80% away from our goal - please, we need to your help to share this to everyone in your network.

Remember that your money will be going towards to help with the meals, equipment for the day of, and most of all, the hacker experience of each participant.

Thank you again for all those who've helped, let's hit that $5000!
