WMSC Excellence in Radio Scholarship and Training Fund

90.3 WMSC FM is an alternative rock and talk college radio station owned by Montclair State University, largely operated by university students and supported by the School of Communication and Media. The station broadcasts locally at 90.3 MHz, worldwide via their website, and is also available via the iHeartRadio app.

In the past four years, WMSC has earned national recognition receiving two nominations for the prestigious Marconi Radio Award, winning the Spirit of College Radio Award twice, and several college broadcasters wins and nominations including being nominated for Best College Station in The Nation (in colleges of +10,000 students). There are currently 20 student directors who oversee the station’s operation in the areas of news, sports, music, production, promotions, ticket giveaways, website, social media, engineering, morning show production and office manager. There are over 45+ disc jockeys and contributors and each semester WMSC trains up to 30 new DJs.

Students who participate at WMSC have, as a result, obtained internships at commercial stations such as WDHA, 101.5FM, WCBS, iHeartRadio and SiriusXM among others.

During the stay-at-home orders, the station remained on air, with students staying committed to their roles and ensuring the station was giving everyone a sense of purpose during historically challenging times for all. The WMSC Excellence in Radio Scholarship and Training Fund seeks to acknowledge and reward the hard work of undergraduate students who volunteer their time and efforts to the radio station and embody the hard work and spirit of Excellence in College Radio.

Your donations will assist outstanding Montclair State University sophomore, junior, and senior students - who demonstrate considerable achievement and leadership at the radio station and have significant potential for future creative development in the broadcast arts - in defraying tuition costs and attend vital industry training (NAB, BEA, CBI, etc.). Being able to assist them to defray tuition cost and send them to radio industry trainings held by the National Association of Broadcasters, The Broadcast Education Association, College Broadcasters Inc. that take place annually also provides them with the networking and training opportunities that can help define their careers.
