90.3 WMSC FM is an alternative rock and talk college radio station owned by Montclair State University, largely operated by university students and supported by the School of Communication and Media. The station broadcasts locally at 90.3 MHz, worldwide via their website, and is also available via the iHeartRadio app.
In a challenging year, WMSC earned four national awards including "Best College Station in the Nation" (in colleges of +10,000 students) at the 2021 Intercollegiate Broadcasting System Conference and Awards; a third Marconi Award nomination for "College Station of the Year" and six national nominations from College Broadcasters Inc.
This year, students are thrilled to celebrate the 11th Annual World College Radio Day, October 1st, 2021 in person. The excitement is palpable and the motto "This Goes to 11" (a wink to "These Go to 11" on the classic mockumentary "This is Spinal Tap") has sent them into overdrive!
There are currently 20 student directors who oversee the station’s operation in the areas of news, sports, music, production, promotions, ticket giveaways, website, social media, engineering, morning show production and office manager. The station currently has over 51 disc-jockeys on air, almost 80 contributors and over 600 general members, all volunteers.
Students who participate at WMSC have, as a result, obtained competitive internships and entry level jobs at commercial stations such as WDHA, 1010 WINS, 101.5FM, WCBS, iHeartRadio and SiriusXM among others.
The WMSC Excellence in Radio Scholarship has been established to assist outstanding Montclair State University sophomore, junior, and senior students in defraying tuition costs and to afford them registration and access to industry training. The WMSC scholarship is awarded annually to one or more students who have demonstrated considerable achievement in the department and have significant potential for future creative development in the broadcast arts.
The WMSC Excellence in Radio Scholarship and Training Fund seeks to acknowledge and reward the hard work of undergraduate students who volunteer their time and efforts to the radio station and embody the hard work and spirit of Excellence in College Radio.
