Thank you!

October 20, 2022

Huge thanks to everyone who contributed to our fall WMSC Excellence in Radio Scholarship & Training Fund. Thanks to you we have hit our initial Fall goal! The news reinvigorated everyone at the station, who were at back it with daily WMSC duties (see video) after attending "Radio's Biggest Night of the Year" (check out photo to see the 'fits for the big night).

The fundraiser has two weeks left before we close it for the year. Every dollar raised goes to benefit a student who volunteers their time and effort at the radio station while keeping good academic standing. We are humbled by your support!

Let's help more Red Hawks!

A word from legendary rock guitarist Slash

October 13, 2022

Revered as one of the best guitarists of all time, SLASH first came to fame as one fifth of Guns N’ Roses, where he created the timeless guitar riffs to #1 hits “Sweet Child o’ Mine” and “Welcome To The Jungle”. The iconic rock guitarist, songwriter and film producer has amassed album sales of over 100 million copies, earned a Grammy Award, seven Grammy nominations and was inducted in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. When not touring with GNR, you can find Slash recording or touring with his solo band Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators.

WMSC students got an opportunity to sit down with Slash, and you can find that interview on our Soundcloud page, but here is a brief video clip where Slash speaks about the importance of college radio in a day and age where music discovery can happen in so many other places.

This is an example of the kind of life-changing pre-professional opportunities Montclair State University students get at WMSC. Your support, which helps them defray tuition costs, helps them be more available for this kind of cool opportunity. Thank you!

Happy World College Radio Day

October 07, 2022

Just 4 hours left in our 36-hour live World College Radio Day broadcast marathon, and we are reinvigorated by everyone's energy and participation! It has been as rewarding as being awake for two days, but more rewarding than exhausting. This team of students are ALL volunteers who dedicate an enormous part of their free time to learn everything they can about the broadcast arts.

Follow us on Instagram for photos and videos @wmscradio. Check our newsletter on the WMSC website, wmscradio.com.

To everyone who has been tuning in, our friends and families who brought us food, coffee (lots of coffee) and snacks, we are so thankful! We couldn't do this without you.

Special thanks to the Broadcast and Media Operations team who came in clutch when our Radio 1 board died (RIP) and quickly moved us to studio 2 so we could continue to broadcast. Also special thanks to Dr. Koppell for always being game for a groovy time at the radio station. Last but not least, we are so eternally grateful to adjunct professor and MSU alum Tom Kaminski, for always hearing our ideas and being one of our biggest supporters.

Tomorrow we move back to regularly scheduled programming, and a few of us will probably sleep for a day or two. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support.
