A thank you from our award-winning radio station students!

October 30, 2024

Hello everyone,

I'm writing to you today with exciting news about the outstanding achievements of our student-run radio station, WMSC-FM. I'm proud to share that WMSC students have been recognized with three first place awards, three second place awards, and two fourth place awards at the prestigious 2024 College Broadcasters Inc. National Student Production Awards. Please see video below of students that had the opportunity to go to Seattle for the College Broadcasters, Inc. annual National Student Media Convention, and broadcasted live from the convention.

These accolades are a true testament to the exceptional talent, dedication, and creativity of our WMSC students. They have showcased their excellence as journalists, broadcasters, and media creators, bringing home top honors in categories like Best Audio Promo, Best Student Media Website, and Best Video Special Broadcast.

As an alumnus, family member, industry pro, I'm sure you understand the immense value that experiential learning opportunities like WMSC provide our students. This student-run radio station gives them the platform to hone their skills, build their portfolios, and gain invaluable industry experience - all while entertaining and informing our campus community.

However, the success of WMSC would not be possible without the generous support of donors like you. Your contributions enable us to provide our students with the resources they need to thrive, including sending them to prestigious national conferences, training and allow them to enter competitions. These experiences expose them to industry experts, expand their professional networks, and prepare them to excel in their future careers.

I'm writing to thank you for your continued support in continuing to fund these transformative opportunities for our WMSC students. Your donation, no matter the size, makes a tangible difference in the lives of these talented young media professionals as they pursue their passions and share their voices with the world.

Together, we can ensure that Montclair State University remains a leader in student media excellence. Please consider making a gift today to help our WMSC students build on their success and reach new heights.

Thank you for your continued dedication to Montclair. I look forward to celebrating the future accomplishments of our student broadcasters with you.

Marconi Awards Thank You! We're More Than Half Way There.

October 10, 2024

Dear donors,

Thanks to your generous support, nine of our talented WMSC students got to be right there in the room where radio history is made, the NAB Radio Show and Marconi Awards at the Javits Center in NYC. Established in 1989 and named after inventor and Nobel Prize recipient Guglielmo Marconi, the awards are given to radio stations and outstanding on-air personalities to recognize excellence in radio.  That's right! Now only were these students present when our station's name was called as a finalist, but they also got the opportunity to connect with everyone who is anyone in radio!

The Impact of Your Support

Our students are overwhelmed with gratitude for the opportunity you've provided. By being present at this event, they've gained invaluable insights into the industry's cutting edge. Your support is helping our students keep pace with our rapidly changing times, ensuring they enter the workplace ready for any challenge.

Hands-On Experience at the Radio Show

On the exhibitor floor, our students had the extraordinary opportunity to test new technology on the exhibit floor of the radio show. This hands-on experience with the latest innovations in broadcasting is invaluable for their future careers.

Opening Doors to Future Opportunities

Students also had the opportunity to return today for the NAB Career Fair and we arethrilled to share that some of our students walked away from the event with interviews at major networks including Audacy, Fox, and ABC. These potential career-launching opportunities are a direct result of your support.

Looking Ahead

Your continued involvement is crucial in preparing the next generation of broadcasting professionals and our next conference is in Seattle, where students will delve into AI in media, attend an interactive event at the legendary "Live at KEXP", connect with local pros and attend CBI's first career fair with recruiters representing 361 radio stations and 376 television stations across the country!

 With your support, we can:

  • Send more students to industry-leading events.
  • Develop curriculum that anticipates industry trends.
  • Help connect the dots between the classroom and their first job.

Defenders of Democracy & College Radio!

October 07, 2024

Dear WMSC Supporters,

Our World College Radio Day 32-hour live marathon broadcast was nothing short of epic! From golf cart karaoke to exclusive performances, we showcased the vibrant spirit of college radio. Here's are some highlights of what the students put together for this special day:

  •  A mega WMSC Unplugged
  • Info Desk Concert Series.
  •  DJ Doctor DJ's World College Radio Day Eve Spectacular.
  • "The Soundtrack of Democracy" featuring University President Koppell.
  • Golf cart karaoke bringing music to every corner of campus.
  • Tabling events and giveaways that engaged our entire student body.
  • A video greeting for World College Radio Day (video is attached).

But here's where it gets real: At hour 26, two channels on our main board failed. We lost our DJ Mixer and Aux channels, but did we give up? No way! Our dedicated team rallied, proving that the show must go on.

Your donation will help us:

  1. Give deserving students scholarships to attend industry conferences such as NAB Radio Show in NYC and College Broadcasters Inc. in Seattle.
  2. Give students networking opportunities.
  3. Provide better training opportunities for aspiring broadcasters

Every dollar counts. Whether it's $5 or $500, your contribution will keep college radio alive and thriving at our university.

Give a gift now and be part of WMSC's resilient future!

Together, we'll ensure that WMSC remains the heartbeat of our campus community. Thank you for your support!
